Rights Management
HFF Filmworks works at the point where intellectual property, production and commercial strategy meet. Operating in the United States and United Kingdom, the company acquires and manages its own rights while working with producers, publishers, estates, archives and institutions on selected outside properties and productions.
Development and Packaging
We develop and package selected feature films, documentaries, television and media projects, and work with production partners, financiers, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents and institutions to assemble a viable production structure. For international projects, this may also include co-production planning, film tax credits and production incentives in the United States and United Kingdom.
Catalogue Management
HFF Filmworks manages film, audio, literary, music and publishing rights across HFF Filmworks and ZMI Records and the company’s publishing and media operations.
The company maintains chain of title and contractual records, coordinates registrations, monitors continuing rights and obligations, and identifies opportunities for release, reissue, adaptation, compilation and international publication.
For selected outside catalogues, ZMI provides active representation focused on development and commercial use rather than passive administration.
Licensing and Distribution
HFF Filmworks places projects and catalogue properties with distributors, broadcasters, streaming platforms, publishers, record companies and other licensees.
Each arrangement is considered according to territory, format, term, exclusivity, distribution window and permitted use. Depending on the property, ZMI may negotiate a direct license, appoint a distributor or sales agent, establish an international partnership or develop a new production around the underlying rights.
Rights, Clearances and Delivery
HFF Filmworks manages the rights and clearance process required to move a project safely from development to release.
This work includes archival footage and photography, music, literary works, artwork, trademarks, appearances, locations, releases and other third party material. ZMI also coordinates title research, chain of title, E&O preparation, delivery documentation and specialist legal opinions where required.
For producers and rights holders, ZMI provides a single point of coordination across development, packaging, rights, clearances and commercial exploitation. The result is a property that is properly controlled, professionally assembled and ready for production, financing and distribution.
